21.12.2012 Böju – Rabat

Heute Morgen erwachte ich schon um 6 Uhr, eine halbe Stunde früher als der Wecker! Gemütlich konnte ich mich bereit machen, die letzten Dinge im Gepäck verstauen und zu meiner Tochter Melanie nach Hunzenschwil fahren, die mich um 8 Uhr erwartete. Die Strassen waren glücklicherweise wieder frei vom Schnee gestern und auch die Temperaturen waren deutlich über dem Gefrierpunkt! Wir fuhren zusammen an den Flughafen Basel-Mulhouse - Melanie wird mein Auto die 2 Wochen benutzen können und mich am 7. Januar wieder abholen kommen.

Beim Einchecken entdeckte ich, dass ich meinen Golfsack nur für den Hinflug angemeldet hatte. Da ich aber nach dem Abschiednehmen von Melanie noch genug Zeit hatte, erstellte ich einen Voucher für den Rückflug im Internet (gratis mit Air France!).

This morning I woke up at 6 am, half an hour before the alarm clock! Like this I had no rush to make myself ready, put the last items in my luggage and drive to my daughter Melanie to Hunzenschwil who expected me at 8 am. Fortunately the streets were clear of the snow from yesterday and the temperatures were distinctly above the freezing point! Together we drove to the airport of Basel-Mulhouse- Melanie will benefit from my car the next 2 weeks and pick me up on my return on the 7^th of January.

When I checked in my baggage, I noticed that I had declared my golf bag only for the outbound flight. But because I had enough time after saying goodbye to Melanie, I created a voucher for the inbound flight on the web (for free with Air France!).

 

Rabat

 

Wir starteten pünktlich um 10:40 Uhr in Basel und kamen 1 Stunde später in Paris an. Mit dem Shuttlebus ging es dann vom Terminal 2G zum Terminal 2E und als ich am Gate ankam, konnte ich gleich ins Flugzeug steigen. Hoffentlich ist mein Gepäck auch dabei!? Wir flogen dann aber mit einer halben Stunde Verspätung um 13:35 Uhr in Paris ab, die wir aber bis nach Casablanca wieder einholten. Kaum hatten wir das Mittelmeer überquert und über dem afrikanischen Kontinent, war kein Wölkchen mehr zu sehen! Wir fuhren der marokkanischen Küste entlang und ich sah deutlich die Strecke, die ich vor 5 Jahren zum ersten Mal von der Schweiz aus abgefahren hatte…

We took off on time at 10:40 am in Basel and arrived at Paris 1 hour later. A shuttle bus brought me from terminal 2G to 2E and when I arrived at the gate the plane war ready for boarding. I just hoped that my luggage would make it too!? We took off from Paris with half an hour delay at 1:35 pm which we caught up by the time we landed in Casablanca. Scarcely we had crossed the Mediterranean and were over the African continent when there was no cloud to see anymore! We flew along the coast of Morocco and I could make out the stretch I had driven along for the first time coming from Switzerland 5 years ago…

Kurz nach 15 Uhr kamen wir in Casablanca an. Nach langem Warten an der gründlichen aber freundlichen Passkontrolle, holte ich mein Gepäck und suchte die Budget Autovermietung auf. Dort wurden aber noch Kunden vor mir betreut, so wechselte ich inzwischen einige Euros in Dirham ein und besorgte mir Wasser für unterwegs. Kurz vor 17 Uhr schliesslich fuhr ich vom Flughafen Casablanca auf der Autobahn Richtung Rabat. Das Wetter war sonnig und mild, um die 20 Grad. Um 17:30 war aber die Sonne schon untergegangen und es wurde auch gleich kühler.

 

Shortly after 3 pm we landed in Casablanca. After a long time waiting at the thorough but friendly customs, I picked up my luggage and went to the Budget car rental office. As there were other customers being served, I went to change some Euros into Dirham and bought some water for on the road in the meantime. Shortly before 5 pm finally I took the highway from the airport of Casablanca direction Rabat. The weather was sonny and mild, around 20 centigrade. At 5:30 was sunset and immediately it became cooler.

Um 18:30 Uhr kam ich bei Kamal in Agdal, einem modernen Teil von Rabat, an und bei einem Apero und Champagner tauschten wir unsere Neuigkeiten aus. Er zeigte mir mein Zimmer, wir holten mein Gepäck aus dem Auto (den Golfsack liess ich im Auto, da die Parkplätze in Marokko ziemlich sicher sind weil immer mindestens ein Wächter aufpasst und so etwas Bakschisch verdient – überall ist das so in Marokko!).

At 6:30 I arrived at Kamal’s in Agdal, a modern part of Rabat, and we exchanged our news having an appetizer and some champagne. He showed me my room, we got my luggage from the car (I left the golf bag in the car, as the parking is quite safe in Morocco because there is always at least one guard who earns some baksheesh this way – everywhere in Morocco it is like that!)

Um 21:30 Uhr entschieden wir etwas essen zu gehen. Kamal schlug das Steak House El Gaucho seiner Freunde Fatiha & Foued in Hay Riad vor… Welch eine gute Idee das war! Alleine hätte ich den tollen Ort nie gefunden und wir genossen einen wunderschönen und lustigen Abend mit einem herrlichen Essen, fantastischem Wein aus Rabat und arabischer Live-Musik inmitten von Revolutionären!

At 9:30 pm we decided to go out for dinner. Kamal suggested the Steak House El Gaucho of his friends Fatiha & Foued in Hay Riad… What a good idea this was! I would never have found this place by myself and we enjoyed a wonderful and jolly evening with delicious food, fantastic wine from Rabat and Arabic live music in the middle of revolutionaries!
